Massimo Pignatelli, MD, PhD, Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (UK), is a clinical scientist and academic pathologist (H-index 56 on Scopus, 10069 citations) who spent most of his clinical and academic career in the UK. Before joining Nazarbayev University, Dr. Pignatelli worked at the University of Glasgow (UK) where he served as Head of the School of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Health Care. He also held the position of Head of Pathology Department named after St.Mungo-Notman. Dr. Pignatelli’s academic career included also previous senior clinical and academic leadership roles at Imperial College, London, University of Bristol, where he was also Professor of Histopathology, Head of Clinical Sciences and Head of Laboratory Medicine. As Vice-President for Medicine, he is responsible for the execution of Goal 4 of Nazarbayev University – the creation of a new health care system for Kazakhstan. As Founding Dean of the Medical School at Nazarbayev University, he has overall responsibility for the strategic leadership and executive management of the School of Medicine, including finance, human resources, research, teaching, professional development and facilities. |
